Drowning Pool is one of those Nu/Core/whatever bands that came out in the mid-90s (actually debuting post-millennially) and achieved platinum sales. Since then they have released some six albums with their popularity steadily on the decline and their singers changing almost constantly, this is actually the second one with Jasen Moreno, who took over from Commbs, their longest running one, for 2013 “Resilience”.

Samey riffs on heavily d-tuned guitars, the typical shouty vocals, delivered with some conviction and lyrics about “inspired confrontation” (translation: violence) without any purpose really. Their song “bodies” has allegedly inspired people to go on a “shooting spree” and they’re proud endorsers of the American military operations in the Far East. Musically it’s almost like listening to the same mid-tempo shitty-core over and over that generally changes very little differentiation. I guess songs like “By the Blood”, “Snake Charmer” & “All Saints Day” are not too bad and then – notable exceptions are “We are the Devil” that’s somewhat more melodic and has a funny intro and the obligatory “ballad”/softer song “Another Name” that’s smalzy and goes to show that even “tough guys” have a soft side… (this is really vomit inducing and more fake than the toupee on an old bald hair metallers head!)…

If you like this “shit”, go ahead. If not keep away. It’s fair, but really quite boring and not “new”.
