When I received this album I misread the cover and I was excited that 90s punk/grunge band The Dwarves released another album. Turns out though that this is a totally different band, Drawers are a sludge/hardcore/metal band from Toulouse, France.

After their EP, “This is Oil”, (Deadlight, 2008), their debut full-length, “All is One” (Slowburn, 2011), along the lines of Mastodon and Baroness, constant touring in Europe and a split EP with fellow French stoner/doomsters Hangmanís Chair (Moodisorder, 2012), they decided it was time for them to release their second self-titled album.

Writing a few words about the band in general was the easy part. Writing about their music and what I think about it… now that’s hard. I honestly don’t know. It’s not bad, no. But at the same time, I can’t say that I enjoyed this record much. I don’t know why. I swear I listened to the whole thing more than 6 times in order to decipher what it is that turns me off. But to no avail. Each time I couldn’t, for the life of me, put my finger on it. I don’t know. I mean the guitar riffs (while not spectacular) are quite fine, the rhythm section is pretty tight, I’ve heard far worse than this dude’s voice and I don’t have any objections with the production sound. Frustrating as it might be for me, I don’t know what I don’t like about “Drawers”. I just don’t know!

I’m willing to bet though, that Drawers will be a killer band to see perform live. I say that because one thing that’s definitely not missing from this record is the kick-ass, rocking attitude a great live band must have.
