Doomraiser, is an Italian quintet from Lazio, who have existed since 2004 and have released a number of full length efforts and demos, while, touring around Europe several times. Without particularly subscribing to a particular style or sub-genre, of the doom scene, which as the name, should have already indicated, they choose to serve, they seem to have the lazy, slow riffing and faux evil, eerie atmosphere, with the occasional lighter, more lamenting moment and the characteristic monotonous soloing that a lot of bands trademark and seem to serve them and the said genre quite well. (See “Addiction”)...

At other times, however they just opt for a gloomy, monotonous and deadly atmosphere, with demonic, vocals, which leaves no glimmer of light shine through the depths of hell in which the bands seems to be writhing in, like on the seven and a half minute “Mirror of Pain”.

They still seem to have more facets, as “Ascension: 6 to 7” takes a middle of the road, stonier road, with the only thing being constant, the concrete-like thick riffs.

“Apophis”, almost doubles the speed, but this is a lot more groovy and also adds a 70s channeling vocal performance, that is almost drowned in the general madness.

“In Winter” feels almost like slowing a 45rpm Danzig recording to 33 rpm… evil and somewhat bordering on the ridiculous, as the vocals end up sounding like a man who's choking – I suppose that'’ the bands intention...

Serving as a tombstone to the album “Dio inverso (Reverse)” – roughly translating as “Anti-God” possibly eluding to Satan, is deathly and abandons the strict doom style, for an almost primal, black metal style, with slow doomy riffs and the occasional, cleaner vocal, which creates a huge antithesis.

This is an album only for those one-track minded doomsters, that enjoy, the creepy ultra-slow, barely musical forms of doom, that are monotonous and almost bereft of almost all melody and just meant to impress by the sheer heaviness and extremity. Not my cup of tea... people into hemlock however, might find it, to be theirs.
