Dion Bayman
Afterburn
Independent Release
2014
That’s the cool thing with the internet music era. You can find music, literally, almost everywhere; from the fanciest up to the least known places. Musicians do not have to struggle anymore. They just do what they need to do and then put it up and the whole world can check it out. Of course some have the knowledge not only to write music but also mix, produce and master it too. In that way, they can present a complete music album, while others that do not have such skills are only here to make our lives harder.
Anyway, Dion is a young multi-instrumentalist and vocalist from Australia. “Afterburn” is his sophomore release. He plays all the instruments on this album, he sings and he has also done the programming, the mixing, the production and the mastering. As you can guess this is a one-man band thing. I always favor real bands that everyone has their own role and the final outcome is a music-chemistry thing. But in some cases a “lonely-rider” can do all the work by himself and also achieve very good results in the end. That’s exactly the case here and I must tell you that this thing ain’t easy at all. Dion has done a great job on every part.
Musically, Dion is moving on the modern side of AOR, melodic rock and pop-rock music. I thought of Harry Hess’ modern stuff at times and that’s a compliment if you know what I mean. He has a good sense of melodies and he has come up with various catchy hooks at large. Furthermore, as a musician who respects himself, Dion has also delivered the wonderfully sensational ballad “Into My Arms”. A good choice for all of you who have broken up with your other half but you are still in love with them and feel “weird” every night! Overall, “Afterburn” is a quite enjoyable modern AOR/melodic rock album which will please the fans of the genre…
