DGM
The Passage
Frontiers Music Srl
2016
Damn it! I can remember a twenty years younger me reviewing the debut of DGM back in 1997 and doing an interview with them… I’ve been doing this for quite some time now, I guess. No-matter…
“The Passage” is the band’s eighth album and they are quite a different animal these days than way back then, in quite a few ways, including a quite different lineup among other things. Also the involvement of some members with production matters has made them sound quite impeccable and obviously 20 years and eight albums have helped hone and refine their sound into some world class progressive metal that’s got quite a bite. The introduction of their current singer Mark Basile seemingly completed the puzzle and they have been way more “competitive” on an international level since then. Sounding like a mix between Dream Theater and Symphony X, whose guitarist Mike Romeo also guests on the album, along with Tom Englund from Evergrey.
Overall, “The Passage” is thoroughly enjoyable and proves that hard work and dedication can get you noticed, ultimately.
