Devianz
A Corps Interrompus
Self Released
2012
Devianz are hailing from France and they’ve been in the scene since 2004. “A Corps Interrompus” (With Interrupted Bodies) is their somophore release which was orchestrated by producer Guyom Pavesi (Headcharger, Die On Monday, Dead Sea Lions etc.) and mastered by Alan Douches (Beirut, The Rapture, Kool & The Gang, etc.) in the USA. So, as you can understand the production is very powerful and professional. That’s something I do appreciate in bands… when they go on releasing their work by themselves and yet, they take care of the production… which is sort of significant in any release.
It’s also hard to label them as they blend several music kinds such as: power pop/rock, grunge, hardcore-punk, alternative rock, post-hardcore… and their musical background is always rock. They seem to have been influenced from bands like: At The Drive-In, System of a Down, Unjust, Amen & Stony Sleep among others and they sing in French. Definitely, they have built up a strong name in their country and I believe that this second release will give them the chance to gain more popularity. Vincent Cavanagh (Anathema) is participating in the song “Ton Corps N’est Qu’atome” (Your body is Nothing but Atoms) by adding some atmospheric touches as well.
Those who like the band’s debut “Una Duna in Mezzo All’oceano” (A dune in the Middle of the Ocean) will also be satisfied by “A Corps Interrompus”. If you like any of the abovementioned bands or music genres then better check ‘em out.
