Defy All Reason
The Road Ahead
Independent Release
2015
Defy All Reason is a newcomer from Wales and the “The Road Ahead” is their debut release. The band plays hard rock music which has also got hard & heavy, modern rock, rock & roll & southern rock elements. They have a desire for the US hard rock/southern sound and that’s obvious by the cover on Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive”.
“The Road Ahead” has some very good moments in general. Especially the southern and softer/semi-ballad tracks like “Behind Those Eyes” & “The Only One” which are simply wonderful. The hard rocker ones, which also have a southern touch, are OK but they lack memorable hooks on the whole. The album was co-produced by Todd Edwards and Defy All Reason & mastered by Pete Maher (Jimmy Page, Thunder). The production is quite good although I would prefer it to be somewhat tighter and a tad heavier.
Defy All Reason seem to have potential and know what they wanna play and how they can do it. They may come from the UK but they do fancy the (southern) US rock sound more at large. Surely, the band’s second release will give us a more precise hint about the band’s further course into the music scene…
