David A. Saylor is mostly known from his band Push (UK) and for being a session vocalist, music producer, songwriter and vocal arranger. Two years ago, he finally managed to release Push’s (UK) debut album through AOR BLVD Records. Now, he delivers his first solo album… which is a pure AOR, with lots of Westcoast & pop elements, release. How pure huh? Well, just bring artists like: Jimi Jamison, Steve Perry, Richard Marx, Tim Feehan, John Farnham, Stan Bush & Bob Halligan among others on your mind… and you’ve got the picture of how this album sounds like.

This CD showcases the lighter side of AOR music… the Westcoast & pop one, without any hard tunes… but with tasteful mid-tempo songs & ballads. There are three covers on the album… the first one is “Hands to Heaven” by Breathe, the second is “Inside Love” by Seven & the third one is “I Don’t Want to Wait Anymore” by The Tubes. I must admit that they have been wonderfully covered by David. The other 7 songs of the album are all very beautiful… and it’s up to each one of you to find your beloved ones here… mine are: “City of Angels”, “Give It All”, “In Our Dreams”, “Think of What Your Thinking” & “Where Do We Go from Here” (a wonderful duet with Suzie Ashby).

This album smells 80s from miles away… I could have easily thought that this was another great lost album from the 80s. David’s voice is wonderful and his performances on the album will make you shiver at times. This is how a singer that loves this kind of music must sing… with passion and warmth. The production is good but in my opinion, it could have been better and tighter… but that’s not something which will prevent anyone from enjoying this album thoroughly. “City of Angels” is an utter pure & gratifying (80s) AOR release… so if you do love melodic pop/rock & AOR music… then you have no excuse not to get this album…
