Dave is a well-known guitarist as he has cooperated with some of the biggest names in the rock scene such as Keith Emerson, Roger Waters (The Dark Side of the Moon tour - 2006–2008 & The Wall Live 2010–2012 tour), John Wetton (Asia, ex-King Crimson etc.), Ken Hensley (ex-Uriah Heep, ex-Blackfoot, etc.), Qango (an Asia spin-off), The Nice, and Carl Palmer.

“Scarlet – The Director’s Cut” is Dave’s solo work that’s been in the market for more than 5 years now. For the first time the album has a world wide release through Cherry Red records. I would rather they had included a couple of bonus tracks and a video as well in the version… as it doesn’t offer anything more. The album has been remixed/remastered for this release. The production was done Jamie Humphries & Dave Kilminster and the mastering by Jon Astley at “Close to the Edge” Mastering. The sound is clear & superb in general.

Having a valuable help by the drummer Pete Riley, the bassist Phil Williams and the vocalist Anne-Marie Helder, Dave goes all the way and blends, funky, classic rock, prog rock, atmospheric, pop-rock, acoustic & hard rock parts together in order to present his own music work. Surely, he has been touched by Floyd’s spirit (who hasn’t after all), but the funk-groove moments of the album are far too many in comparison with the atmospheric, acoustic, mellow, prog ones. Personally, I mostly favor tunes like: “Just Crazy”, “Angel”, “Brightest Star”, & “Rain...  (On Another Planet)” for they have a sweet nostalgic sense. All the songs are good here, but certainly, one will have his personal favorites. The performances are excellent and Dave shows a different side of him, with his personal album. Now that his sophomore work had a mainstream release, it’s time to strike back with a second updated & better album. At least that’s what I’m expecting from a gifted guitarist/composer like Dave…
