Course Of Fate is a newcomer that comes from Norway and was originally founded in 2015, even though an unofficial version of the band existed years before. This sextet seems to be influenced by various prog metal bands, such as Queensrÿche, Evegrey, Fates Warning, Dream Theater and Circus Maximus among others. I do not usually refer to a band’s influences, but in this occasion I wanted to give you an idea of what to expect.
On their debut release, Course Of Fate are following the more melodic and atmospheric side of prog metal music along with some modern touches here and there. Thankfully, the guys do not go for lengthy boring tracks with weird changes and never-ending solos. On the contrary, their emotional, atmospheric and melodic approach is what makes this album very warm and compelling from the very first listen. Of course, the more you listen to it, the more you get into it and discover new things. Personally, I fancy this kind of prog metal music more than the show-off boring stuff that’s trendier in a way.
“Mindweaver” is a remarkable debut album by a promising band that needs to stay on this music road and keep progressing so as to become successful over the next years. They do have the talent to do so, but they must keep in mind that especially after such a strong debut the challenge will be even harder. If you like the aforementioned bands and prog metal is your thing, then give this album a chance!
