The Black Rain
Night Tales
Street Symphonies
2012
The Black Rain is a newcomer from Italy. Well not actually a newcomer, as they took shape back in 2002 but it took them almost 8 years to make a steady line-up and go on to write their own material. Now, nearly a decade after their founding, they released their debut album “Night Tales”.
Balancing between the 80s hard rock music and the hard rock of our time with a kinda contemporary sound, they know how deliver rockin’ riffs & powerful tunes along with nice melodies. In truth to be told, the more you’re listening to this album the more it gets your attention. Blame it on the good songwriting, the fine melodic lines, the rockin’ attitude… whatever works out better for any of you. The album’s sound is lively & rather rockin’. No wonder why as the album was recorded & mixed by Luca Bignardi, winner of 3 Grammy Awards.
There are a couple of emotional songs in this album such as: “Sugar in Poison” & “As I Lie” which offer a good variety on the album. The rockers also work very well, as some have a contemporary feeling and others a bit more moody & expressive one. Take for instance “Mama Let Me Be” which is, probably, the top song of the album. Conversely, the groovy rock & roll-ish opener “Lake Trip” is great as well. I won’t go on talking for every song separately… but believe me there’s a lot of tunes to fancy here. To sum up, “Night Tales” is a pleasant debut album & The Black Rain is a band which got what it takes to go further. It’s up to them from now on. They actually did great at their beginning… the best is yet to come, right…?!
