Beauvoir/Free
American Trash
Frontiers Music Srl
2015
Well the duo, of Beauvoir – Free is known behind the 90s semi-classic, “Crown of Thorns” album and have a lot of co-writes and collaborations with the likes of the Ramones, KISS, Debbie Harry, The Pretenders, John Waite, Lionel Richie, N’Sync, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Bill Wyman, Carlos Santana and Prince to name but a few.
The duo, reconnected, when they both coincidentally moved back to LA in 2003. Fast forward 10 years and a few shows in Europe later, a deal with Frontiers was inked for a brand new album to be recorded in 2014. And “American Trash” finally saw the light of day in 2015...
It does, up to a point have all the “trademarks” of the two artists sound and just because of the combination, Crown Of Thorns would be the first thing that probably comes to mind, yet, having only Free, handle guitars and Beauvoir everything else, makes the sound a bit less, bombastic, even with their extensive experience and all...
You’re guaranteed some strong, more rocking numbers, like the pacey opener “Angels Cry” or the singalong title track, sappy ballads that JB, has been known to excel on like the precious “Just Breathe” that would have had a sea of lighters igniting in the past, or the sunnier “Never Give Up” and everything in between “She’s a KO” or the “Morning After” that don’t exactly fall under either category.
“American Trash” is a finely crafted collection of songs, with a few highlights, that make it sparkle, but not necessarily a must have, unless you’re a fanatic of some of the bands these guys have been in.
