This collaboration of Anderson / Stolt, consisting of the classic Yes vocalist & singer/songwriter Jon Anderson and progressive rock heavyweight Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings, Transatlantic), has been announced a bit out of the blue.

While Stolt tries to differentiate this from being “Yes” inspired, the whole thing comes from the same “headspace” and with Anderson’s alto tenor acerbic vocals, the whole thing really gravitates a lot towards Yes without however being a stale copy. The description of modern and classical rock and ethno, tribal and orchestrated, grooving and floating, does justice to the material, I guess. There are four larger “chapters” with nine indexed tracks, so you can expect songs that really aren’t constricted to the 3-4 minute commercial rules but just evolve until they’ve completely manifested their creators ideas.

The two musicians are augmented by Tom Brislin (who played on the Yes Symphonic tour) & Lalle Larsson on keys, Jonas Reingold & Michael Stolt on bass and Felix Lehrmann on drums. The sessions were also bolstered by appearances from Daniel Gildenlow, Nad Sylvan, Anja Obermayer, Maria Rerych and Kristina Westas, who all provided backing vocals.

Really worth checking if you’re a big fan of Anderson’s voice and classic Yes.
