The Aaron Clift Experiment
Outer Light, Inner Darkness
Aaron Clift Productions
2015
The Aaron Clift Experiment is an Austin, Texas newcomer, which took shape in 2012 and is led by vocalist & keyboardist Aaron Clift. There’s Eric Gutierrez on guitar & mandolin, Kevin North on bass guitar & double bass and Joe Resnick on drums & percussion too. The band released its debut album, “Lonely Hills”, in 2012 and now they are back with their sophomore release.
The Aaron Clift Experiment is considered to be a progressive rock band but apart from its neo-progressive background it also has various melodic rock (even AOR at places), pop-rock & classical elements. Their music is rather soft and laid-back in a way, their musicianship is strong and the production is smooth & clear. Aaron is a fine singer but I’d prefer a little more passion on the way he delivers his vocals. Not all of the tracks are very long and in my opinion, the longest track, “Moonscape” (which lasts around 12 minutes) is the finest song on the album.
The Aaron Clift Experiment have been influenced by the big prog rock bands of the 70s but they try to present their own musical proposal via their influences. They do not succeed entirely but that’s reasonable judging by the fact that they have been together for only 3 years. Then again, they do have potential and they can blend and orchestrate several rock genres together nicely. Their third album will show the way… as it does most of the times.
