It’s Sunday night an there is no better way to spend an evening than at Manchester Academy, especially when you got bands Viza, SOiL an headliners Skindred performing live to a jam packed venue.
Viza, an American rock band from Los Angeles, California, kicked off the evening and put on a very lively, exciting performance. They had fans going from the start, they needed no encouragement and the band threw out an array of songs that had crowd dancing and raising arms, clapping throughout and throwing lyrics out too.
It was a great atmosphere and bands interaction and stage presence with the crowd was really good and at times humorous, with lead vocalist doing little dances and cracking the odd joke, he also had a moment where they thanked fans and then other bands for their support, this only added to the atmosphere and only got better as the evening went on.
Viza put on a fantastic show and there was an uproar of cheers after each song, the fans certainly wanted more as they started chanting ‘Viza’ after they performed their final song. The crowd was buzzing and they were very much ready for next band SOiL.
SOiL, a hard-rock band from Chicago, Illinois, U.S, were next to perform.
Straight away they were welcomed by heavy cheering which continued throughout. They gave a very lively, passionate and exciting performance and performed a few songs, including “Unreal”, which crowd clapped through, “Redefine”, and also “The Hate Song” from their new album “Whole” they also had the crowd dancing, arms in the air and belting out lyrics.
Atmosphere was intense and bands and fans fed off each other’s energy, the band’s stage presence and interaction with the crowd was awesome.
Lead vocalist Ryan Mccombs expressed the bands appreciation to the fans thanking them for their support and allowing them to do what they do, they also thanked the other bands. They went on to perform the popular “Halo” which was a pretty powerful performance which had lead vocalist Ryan Mccombs suddenly disappear off stage and into the crowd, much to fans joy, everyone was belting out the lyrics, and at the end of the song, Ryan finished off saying: “Always remember, the music starts and ends with you, you make this happen, thank you, thank you so much’’… he then screamed thank you at the top of his voice for last time before getting back on stage and closing the show. They gave a fantastic performance and fans went crazy for them which after a performance like that, was very much deserved.
Last to perform were headliners Skindred, A rock-reggae band from Newport, South Wales U.K that was on their ‘Kill The Power’ tour.
They were given a very warm welcome and fans were screaming for them before they even started.
They were lively, energetic, very humourous and also showed a passionate side at times. They started off with “Ninja” and straight off got crowd with arms in the air and dancing. He would have fans shouting “Kill The Power” and if wasn’t to his satisfaction he would joke saying “that’s bollocks” and have fans laughing then going louder and better.
Lead vocalist Benji Webbe gave a brilliant performance, stage presence and interaction was immense and he very much kept the humorous side throughout, cracking jokes and bettering what was already an awesome atmosphere, he was also getting fans shouting “Manchester” creating a buzz , and doing various hand gestures including waving like the queen.
The academy was buzzing and one song he performed was “Doom Riff”, which at the start gave a strong speech saying “Aint no one better than anyone else, it’s about bringing nations together to rock, that’s what the ‘dred’ is about, its one unity, one bounce”, he then had fans jumping and throwing arms in the air doing peace signs.
They went on and performed last song “Warning”, they had fans jumping and going wild, taking off clothes and doing a helicopter wave, which consisted of fans spinning items of clothing round in the air throughout, everyone put devil horns up and held them for a while even after song finished.
All bands came out at the end of the night, shaking hands and congratulating each other’s performances, some members waving at the fans and fans still holding their devil horns up. It really was an awesome night and that definitely finished the evening off in the best way.
