Sunnata is a Polish quartet that changed their name between albums for some reason. They perform this sort of hipster, bearded hybrid, between Stoner/Sludge and Doom. Minimalist, repetitive arrangements, poorly recorded vocals that own a lot to the 60/70 Psych movement and a generally dark and dry sound that only has some verb to keep it from scratching the paint from the walls.

Sunnata’s ten minute jams are quite boring, in all honesty, but the first couple of numbers like the “heavy” and smokey title track, or the relatively groovier and occasionally more energetic “Beasts of Prey” have their moments. Better yet, is the rather tame “Long Gone” that’s softer and easier on the ears, because “New Horizon” and “Again and Against” turn the distortion way up high in an effort to be “heavier and just sound shittier and more chaotic, because of that (although they seem to be lifting a bit of a well-known riff in the middle of the latter)…

To those that like this “sound”, it might have some appeal, but I remain unimpressed.
