Planethard
Now
Scarlet Records
2014
It’s been already a decade since Planethard were formed so they are not to be considered a newcomer anymore – with every pros & cons this thing may have. This is their third full-length album, so a few valuable conclusions can be drawn.
Planethard are known for their modern, alternative & melodic hard rock music. They are influenced by the 90s and the 00s hard rock acts such as Gotthard, Shakra, Jaded Heart, Alter Bridge, Buckcherry, Shinedown, Hinder, Black Stone Cherry and so forth. They do have a full and heavy sound. Specifically, “Now” was produced, mixed and mastered by Matteo Magni at Magnitude Studios and co-produced by the band’s guitarist Marco D’Andrea.
So far so good… but there’s a couple of major things that are missing. Unluckily, Planethard lack originality and memorable hooks. The first thing is equally as important as the second but some bands do get themselves in a better position when they actually have strong hooklines. The (modern) hard rock scene is overloaded with numerous (mediocre) acts, which makes it too hard for a band to separate itself from the mass without having something “extra” to offer. Closing there’s nothing wrong with “Now”, it’s just that we’ve heard these things countless times before and the whole outcome may sound a tad bland at times…
