Finnish thrashers Lost society, a band that Nuclear Blast has tried to “break” for a while now and have been on tours with pretty big names just planted there, are back with their third album.

While they’re not bad, their music, which sounds a lot like Gama Bomb’s and Municipal Waste’s (slightly Suicidal Tendencies meets D.R.I etc.) but a bit tamer in comparison, sounds both a little too plastic as well as quite calculated. While what set the “original” thrash bands apart was the unconventional way in which they sounded for the day as well as having to “fight” to make it, now a band can land a deal fairly easily and just go about writing songs, on a regular basis and not really lifting a finger, so long as they make the label some money. Lost Society sound trite and like a wannabe’s of a third rate, “thrash band” from the 80s. They band you would not really give a shit about, but might be local heroes, or whatnot.

A couple of songs are OK, like opener “I Am the Antidote”, which is quite mid-tempo and heavy, probably not the ideal way to open a thrash album really... along with “Mad Torture” and the faster “Rage Me Up”. There’s an old Pantera cover of “P*S*T*88”,that’s way better than anything the band has to offer on the album, which is sort of telling. I’m guessing the only reason these guys are not out, is contractual and I can’t see them really setting the world on fire, with this modern-retro thrash action… that is not even on par, with the bands that did spearhead the “thrash” semi-revival in post millennial times. Just OK and pretty trite…
