I like it how some “traditional” labels are discovering there might be life and hopefully sales, beyond the “usual” genres they specialize in and as such take forays into sub-genres that are usually foreign to them. AFM Records are signing The Last Vegas, a bizarre rock n roll/hard glam band from Chicago of all places that sound influenced by todays Aerosmith, “Chi-Dem” Guns N' Roses, latter day Mötley Crüe, (with Nikki Sixx having produced one of their earlier albums too – since this one is their sixth or seventh?) and JS-era Skid Row with bits of modern day Alice Cooper thrown in. Sort of OK, but not great. They aren’t half as bad, but listening to “Eat Me”, it just sounded to me like it was the product of an 80s band, trying desperately to sound HIP.

Songs like “Here We Go Again” and “Voodoo Woman” have some moments, while the more melodic and temperate moments like the way more melodic and vintage sounding “Universe & You” or the Aero-influenced “Love’s Got Nothing on Me” and the Cinderella echoing “Hard to Get Over (You’re So)” are kinda alright… but still not top notch. While The Last Vegas are not bad, if it has taken them seven albums to get to be a middle of the road, OK band, I wonder when they might actually happen… their songwriting ain’t bad, they got a nice sound going on, but they’d need to be a helluva more focused and bring some better songs to the table before I could be impressed.
