It a great blessing or a curse to be able to “repeat” yourself. Ask AC/DC and many other bands who have been successfully copying themselves over and over again, with little variation but seemingly great enthusiasm and boundless energy that just seems to spring out naturally.
Iron Savior, are a band that features Kai Hansen’s School friend, Piet Sielck himself, a singer and guitarist who did play with Kai for a while, with even a number of songs that would end up in early Helloween releases, developed during their time together. In 1996, the duo decided to form Iron Savior, which back in the day also featured Thomen (drums) and Hansi (vocals) from Blind Guardian and Dirk from Gamma Ray on bass. Almost 10 albums later and definitely some twenty years later, Iron Savior is still about happy to exist, even with different members still churning out, the same Hello/Ray meets melodic Blind Guardian hybrid, which they have done for a long time, without any surprises. They have a certain level of performance, the songs are good, but not “great” – In what seems to be another “loose” space “opera” concept and if that’s to your liking, you’re probably gonna love it, but just since the characters in this whole story have been able of the occasional, moment of “triumph” and “excellence”, I can’t say that I’m amazed.
On the other hand, not disappointed either, as everything is as one would expect/hope it to be… with songs like the title track, “Way of The Blade” and “Gunsmoke” not being bad at all, it’s just that inspiration is not on overdrive and until it gets there, I’d rather explore other dimensions of the metal galaxy.
