Furyon
Lost Salvation
Dream Records/Cargo Records
2015
Furyon is a UK based rock band and their second album just came out a few weeks ago. They have a modern sound, that’s a little grungy and moody, yet melodic... they must really like the style of bands like Creed and Alter Bridge, who I, for the love of God, couldn’t get into... even if the latter, (basically Creed with a better singer in Miles Kennedy, are sort of bearable)…
The band’s instrumentalists, manage to create a decent enough, replica of that sound, although lighter and less engaging… but it’s Matt Mitchell, the singer, who’s the weakest link here, as he really sounds strained in his higher notes, sometimes almost downright bad. I’ve seen people claiming, that these guys or even Alter Bridge and Creed have/had prog influences… gimme a 3$%%@%@ break. This is another copycat band that has pushed and pushed from the UK media, in hopes they could sell them as the new messiahs... pffff. Only these guys are not on Roadrunner... or a similarly big outfit, so until they are picked, they’re sort of, shit out of luck and they need to cut their teeth on the streets, touring.
Bet if they were on a really bigger label, all them mags – in addition to the “sold out” UK ones would “discover” them and decide that they were the next big thing... sad really... give em a break if you like Alter Bridge/Creed and you don’t mind lack of originality... “Left it with the Gods”, “Good Sky” and “Wiseman” I did find marginally better that the pup, that most of the album is to my ears...
