Vallenfyre
Fear Those Who Fear Him
Century Media Records
2017
Vallenfyre have been going on since 2010 and they can be regarded as the side project of Gregor Mackintosh (Paradise Lost) on vocals & guitars and Hamish Hamilton Glencross (ex-My Dying Bride, ex-Solstice) on guitars & bass. The newest addition is Waltteri Väyrynen (Abhorrence, Paradise Lost, etc.) on drums.
“Fear Those Who Fear Him” is the third studio album from the guys and it really “transferred” me in the early 90s when such kind of releases were more frequent. Brutal death metal mixed with crust punk and death/doom elements. The sound is somewhat “dirty” and kinda “raw”. The album was produced by Kurt Ballou (Converge,Nails, etc.) at GodCity Studio in Salem, MA and mastered by Brad Boatright (Obituary, Beastmilk, YOB) at Audiosiege Mastering in Portland, OR.
Well, apart from the known members that play here, there’s nothing truly fascinating about this album… except for the suckers of the 90s death/crust/doom brutal stuff. The tracks are a bit identical in most cases and personally I do not fancy brutal-shit that are around or less than 2 minutes. Not my cup of tea and nothing to write home about. Better wait for the new Paradise Lost album… this is the band where Greg really shines.
