Tokyo Motor Fist is a new band (one of the numerous projects that Frontiers produces) that was formed by the renowned vocalist Ted Poley (Danger Danger) and the famed guitarist & producer Steve Brown (Trixter). The line-up is completed with two well-known musicians: Greg Smith (Ted Nugent, Rainbow, Alice Cooper) on bass and Chuck Burgi (Rainbow, Blue Oyster Cult, Joe Lynn Turner) on drums. Not bad all, but the music is what matters the most, cuz in the past we’ve seen great line-ups which could not live up to our expectations.
Thankfully, Tokyo Motor Fist’s melodic rock and hard rock music is full of nice melodies. Ted’s voice is still amazing and Steve’s knows how to write fine memorable tracks in general. That’s the basic point by Tokyo Motor Fist. Other than that, I do think that the production could have been a bit better on the whole… well somewhat clearer and tighter but that’s another story. It doesn’t affect the final outcome though. A couple of tracks that were uploaded by the label on YouTube have a poor, demo-like sound, in truth to be told, but the final product is way better on that part.
Well, I do not know if they will keep it up, but certainly this album has several great tracks that all the lovers of the 80s hard rock music will fancy and the performances are superb as well. Let’s hope that Tokyo Motor Fist will get the credit they deserve and they will come up with a new album (with a better sound too) in the near future.
