Gunmen
AFM Records
2017
Orden Ogan have been around for almost 20 years now and “Gunmen” is their sixth studio album so far. They have been serving the power metal movement constantly all these years and have been rather consistent musically all these years, without major ups and downs in their attribution.
“Gunmen” is a step forward form their previous “darker” “Ravenhead”, both musically and in the production part. The choruses are even more melodic and more epic, while that little symphonic touches are making them quite alluring on the whole. It’s true that the choirs on every track refrain are very appealing overall. Moreover, the riffs are heavier and the production more powerful and punchier. Seeb, the band’s vocalist, has taken care of the recordings, the mixing, the production and the mastering (all for the first time) and the final outcome has been fully successful.
The three videos/singles (“Gunman”, “Fields of Sorrow” & “Come with Me to the Other Side”) the band has released so far, give an excellent taste of what this album is all about. Also, the well-known Liv Kristine (Theatre of Tragedy, Leaves' Eyes) is participating in “Come with Me to the Other Side”. “Gunmen” is probably the band’s most “commercial” album to date and by that I mean that it will help the band make an opening to a wider audience, apart from the epic/power metal one. All things considered, the album is quite good, but they do need to find a way to change somehow their formualic melodies & songwriting in a way.
