No Machine - A Terrible Thing

A Terrible Thing

No Machine is a newcomer from London, although the two basic members of the band, the brothers, Al Rivers (vocals) and Emil Rivers (piano) are coming from my homeland. As I know the basic idea behind the name of the band is to make clear that we have to do with a real-live band and songs that can be played live anytime without any use of the machines. I really like “live” bands ‘cause I have the opinion that a band should be able to play its songs anywhere and anytime.
On the music part No Machine embellishes the rock sound with prog elements and melodic lines along with a modern sound. I cannot categorize the band’s music… that would be a terrible thing… for any artist out there… but I can easily say that the guys can write very good  songs with nice melodies. Every time I listened to this album I can find new elements on each song and the truth is that if you cannot write a damn good song no matter how good music player you are then you are nothing… and No Machine have written a bunch of good songs on this album. Songs that will please you from the very first listening are: “A Terrible Thing”, “Tell Me”, “I Choose You”, “Elevator”, “The Races” and “Sunshine (Ain’t No Friend of Mine)”. A good newcomer that must work hard if they wanna survive in this “damn sea” of new bands.
