Golden Sextion
The Silicon Age
Logic(Il)logic
2012
Coming from Italy, this newcomer is fronted by Arthemis’ vocalist, Fabio Dessi. Far away from the power metal of Arthemis… these Italians are delivering modern metal/rock music with various nu metal, modern rock, alternative and gothic rock/metal features. They sound frantic and heavy at times but rather too modernized some others. Some bands that have influenced them are: Evans Blue, Creed, Shinedown, Alter Bridge, Avenged Sevenfold, Daughtry, Nickelback, Bullet For My Valentine, 3 Doors Down, Three Days Grace and so on…
They’ve got a very powerful production but in my opinion, it’s too loud and compressed… the mastering should leave the music breathe… and not over-compress the sound dynamics in order to make it louder. That’s a big mistake that most of the modern and nu metal band have been doing years now so as to achieve a quite loud result. Of course, those who are fond of this genre will like this kind of loud production… but I don’t.
On the other hand, the songs of these modern bands all sound alike… it’s like there’s a specific formula of writing these kind of tunes… the good thing is that Golden Sextion are not very US sound-like and are tryin’ to put their own personality in their music. The bad thing is that they’ve got a long way to go… and they must totally focus on more melodies as this generic powerful-loud hard/alternative mix is the easy way and it’s delivered by any band of this genre. Songs like: “White Wall” and So “Far From This Day” are working better for them… but regrettably, they are the minority in this album. If you like the modern, harder rock sound of our age and bands like the aforementioned ones, then listen to them somehow.
