Independent Release
Minnealopis based rock/metalers Semeron released their newest album entitled “Breathing Scarlet”.
The album starts out strong. The first song “Afro Blue” is a really promising and interesting, guitar based, instrumental into. I was thinking to myself; “they can literally go anywhere from here”. However, it seems they chose to go somewhere where so many have been before. “Can’t Take Me Alive”, the second song there, is a harsh let down. Any attempt for originality seems to have been replaced with cliche lyrics sung with a cliche vocal style and guitar solos that just don’t know when to stop, so they end up getting tiring. The well-known recipe of start the song slow and gain speed and volume right before of right after the chorus is once again put to the test; and even though it still works, it does not produce a noteworthy result. It is as if Semeron decided that since this is the way most of the american rock and metal bands sound like, this is going to be their sound too.
Some slow songs, like “Ship of Fools”, do offer a very welcomed change of pace, but can not alter the overall heard-it-all-before experience of the whole album.
