Charlie Shred
Liljegren Records/Doolittle Group
2012
Charlie Shred is a newcomer from Sweden which was formed by Calle Sundberg (ReinXeed) & Mattias Johansson (ex-ReinXeed) in 2008. Later on Tommy “ReinXeed” Johansson (ReinXeed, Golden Resurrection, PelleK) joined them as a drummer and producer. This guy in unstoppable when it comes to music!
The musical approach of Charlie Shred is closer to the 80s heavy, power, speed & thrash metal with various influences from Metallica, Megadeth, Hallows Eve, Iron Maiden, Exciter, Agent Steel, Nasty Savage and so on. They have nice lead guitars, beautiful melodies and in general, they have blended their influences nicely and they present something solid… specifically on the first part of the album. If the second part were as good as the first one then this album would have been a killer… but I hope they do so in the future to come… for they are indeed good musicians and they’ve got the guts to go further.
Songs like: “Panic”, “Death Comes to All”, “The Rose” (an utterly awesome heavy metal anthem – surely among the top songs of 2012) & Tainted Inside”… will give you the stigma of what those guys are capable of. On the other hand, the early Metallica, Megadeth & Hallows Eve approach on some other tunes may not be bad at all… but then again it’s too cliché and overheard for my taste. They can surely focus on songs like the incredible “The Rose” and amaze us in the near future. Tommy has done, once again, an excellent job on the production. Do listen to Charlie Shred if you like the aforementioned bands and metal stuff from the 80s…
